Just because something is trending doesn’t necessarily mean you have to hop on board, but with so many adorable (and easy) clothes, jewelry and accessories to choose from this summer, there are bound to be a few looks you’re willing to embrace. From bold buttons to tiny sunnies to polka-dot everything, these are all the trends you’re about to see at every weekend barbecue on the block.
SOFT WOVEN BAGS
Last summer it seemed like everyone and their mother was sporting a structured basket bag. This year, it’s time to loosen up. Flexible net bags are the new “it” style, just like the one Coterie member Tiffany Jais is sporting here.
LIBERTY PRINT FLORALS
When Liberty London first began producing its own “Made in England” miniature florals and paisley prints in the ’20s, the company probably didn’t have any idea that those same patterns would still be going strong almost 100 years later.
So much easier to move around in than last year’s off-the-shoulder trend but just as flattering. Plus, you can wear a convertible bra instead of struggling with a strapless.
These are not the rainbow braided anklets you wore in high school. The 2018 version is chic, simple and sophisticated. Wear them with equally dainty kitten heels, slip-on mules or barely there sandals.
Wear a matching top and skirt together or pair them with other superstars from your wardrobe to get the most out of this year’s answer to the romper.
Turns out your favorite cold-weather footwear works just as well for the other half of the year. Stick to ankle boot styles (as opposed to, say, over-the-knee) to stay seasonally appropriate and cool.
Poppy, retro, not just black and white, this summer’s polka dots come in unexpected color combos (like blush and neon pink) or on a pair of tough distressed boyfriend jeans.
CLEAR BAGS AND SHOES
Fill your PVC tote with some brightly colored pouches and a patterned sunglasses case and suddenly this trend doesn’t feel so intimidating. As for shoes, stick to low-heeled or flat sandals that don’t cover your whole foot.
We first spotted this cheery print over on the runways at Gucci, Chloé and Peter Pilotto back in 2016. And now it’s finally ready to hit the streets. Seriously, how adorable is Coterie member.
The Matrix-inspired eyewear is one of the trickiest trends of the summer, but we found a surefire way to pull it off: Choose a cat-eye lens instead of ovals or rectangles. They’ll look good on every face shape and add a touch of glamour to any outfit.
Yves Saint Laurent made them a must-have in 1970. Then they were out. Then the preppy set brought them back to life in the early 2000s. Then they went into hibernation. Well, time to dig those lace-up wedges out of your closet because the quintessential summer shoe is making yet another a comeback.
